I wanted the run, but I also knew I had a 12-hour night shift ahead of me.
So I kept it controlled.
Three miles at a steady 9:12 pace, almost identical from start to finish, in 82-degree heat. Enough to count, not enough to empty the tank before work.
That is what discipline looks like sometimes. Not always pushing harder. Sometimes it is knowing exactly where to stop so the rest of the mission does not suffer.
