Recovery does not remove discomfort.

It changes what discomfort looks like.

Instead of chaos, consequences, and survival, you start facing responsibility, patience, honesty, and the weight of building a real life.

That is not a sign something is wrong.

That is the work changing you.

What started as a routine shift turned into storms, tornado warnings, and a two-hour juvenile transport to a correctional facility.

I was the only one on shift qualified to make the transport, so it was mine.

Sometimes the job changes fast. You do not get to choose the conditions.

You handle what is in front of you and get the job done.

Another three miles today, and this one felt good.

That put me at 30.4 miles over the last seven days, my first 30-mile stretch in two months since going back to Brown County.

I did it during my long work week too.

Some of the runs were hard. Some were shorter than I wanted. But I kept moving, kept showing up, and kept the engine alive.

That matters.

Coffee is in. Brain is still loading.

Another short night of sleep, and I’m heading into night three at the jail later. I’m not looking for a breakthrough today. Just getting my head straight, keeping the day simple, and finishing the block clean.

Sometimes that is the whole assignment.

Wrapping up night two of three.

It was a slow shift. We handled the watch tours, sat around talking for a while, and I got a couple of posts drafted for next week during the quieter stretches.

Not every shift has to be chaos to be useful.

Sometimes the work is covered, the people around you are good, and you use the quiet well.

One more tomorrow.

Breakfast. Coffee. Run.

The engine was there today, but my legs started fading and my form began to go.

I shut it down at 3.69 miles.

Not every run needs to become a fight to count. I got the work in, listened to what the body was telling me, and kept bad mechanics from becoming the goal.

That counts too.

Slow shift, but not a wasted one.

Got five miles in before work, put more time into Bonumark Stream during the quiet stretches, and made it through night one of the three-night run.

Now I’m ready to get home, shut it down, and quit looking at fluorescent lights for a while.

Still a slow shift, so Bonumark Stream moved again.

Built a real scheduled-task foundation with server cron, protected web cron, browser and traffic fallbacks, manual admin runs, task health, run history, and correct site-timezone handling.

Scheduled posts are now running through that system.

Slow start to the shift, so I used the time well.

Bonumark Stream is at v0.5.17 now. Pinned posts are in, the front-end controls are cleaned up, and the three-dot post menu is finally behaving the way it should.

Also got my custom Microblog Stream theme updated to match.

Still building toward the next public release. No rush. I want it to be worth the wait.

Five miles today.

The first three felt strong. After that, my legs and hips started collecting payment.

I still finished the run.

Not every mile has to feel good to count. Sometimes the work is holding the line when the body starts arguing back.

Got the five. Now I’ll own the recovery and head into night one of three at the jail.
