First night of the long week is almost done.
The jail got quiet after lockdown. Just watch tours, time moving slow, and the finish line getting closer.
Ready to go home, pet the cats, and sleep.
Notes about my work, projects, training, and life.
First night of the long week is almost done.
The jail got quiet after lockdown. Just watch tours, time moving slow, and the finish line getting closer.
Ready to go home, pet the cats, and sleep.
More than halfway through night one, I got some armor work in at the jail gym.
Five-minute treadmill warmup. Pullups. Rows. Lateral raises. Overhead extensions. Situps.
The shift does not get to take the whole day.
Eleven years ago, I was 305 pounds and deep in addiction.
Now I am almost 50, sober, running, lifting, riding, working, building, and trying to keep this machine maintained well enough to keep showing up for the people and life I fought to get back.
That did not happen because I found one magic answer.
It happened because I stopped going backward and kept rebuilding.
91 degrees. Feels like 105.
Three miles before work.
The heat took its share, but I got the road anyway.
Recovery is not supposed to stay the entire center of your life forever.
At first, you have to repair. You have to protect the baseline. You have to learn how to stop destroying yourself.
But eventually, the work should give you room to build again.
More living. More purpose. More family. More health. More useful work.
That is the point.

Got tomorrow morning’s Recovery Standard ready before bed.
Long week starts tomorrow night, so having Monday’s work handled now gives me one less thing competing for space.
That is enough for tonight. Time to sleep.
Took Kelly and the boys out for dinner, then got out on the bike alone for 13.44 miles.
Nothing hard. Just steady movement, some air, and a little space in my own head after a full day.
Still moving.
The day needed the road first.
Then it needed a little iron.
Pushups, incline pushups, bench dips, situps, and curls.
Nothing fancy. Just keeping the body moving and the standard alive.
I was scrolling the Google feed on my phone this morning, and it was the same thing it always is.
Clickbait headlines. Empty articles. Ads. Stories written to get a reaction before they give you anything useful.
Meanwhile, I keep putting real work into jimlunsford.com that may not get many views.
I’m still going to build it my way.
No bait. No fake urgency. No empty writing just to chase a number.
Hopefully, it reaches somebody when they need it. And, hopefully, over time, it becomes an archive that actually has value.
The day needed a run, so I gave it one.
4.51 miles through Columbus at a steady 9:09 pace.
Nothing complicated. I just needed the road, some effort, and a little space in my own head.
The engine showed up.
